Ramblings from the Road

The "Spirited" Church of Rock 'n' Roll

"But if at church they would give some ale
And a pleasant fire our souls to regale,
We’d sing and we’d pray all the live long day
Nor ever once from the church to stray."

– William Blake -

It doesn't matter what part of the world you're in, there's nothing quite like music and drinks to bring strangers together.  It's almost like a religion...once you slide the glasses down the bar and crank the volume on your Telecaster, people settle into their rituals, start singing in unison, and suddenly their spirits are elevated...pun TOTALLY intended!

I always look forward to playing venues of this nature. It's so much fun talking to the locals, hearing their stories, and absorbing their appreciation. Inevitably, somewhere over the course of the night, I will utter the words, "You're so sweet," and the man in question will reply, "No, I'm a bastard. I'm just being honest."

Only a quality ale can elicit that type of response! And thank God...when it comes to entertainment, it's nice to give AS WELL as receive.

Cheers! -LJ-

Keep Calm Carry On!

"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."

-Winston Churchill-

After traveling around a bit, I finally got to go back to one of my favorite venues in Atlanta: Winston's! When I first started playing out, it was one of the first places I performed and it still has the best staff and funnest crowds around. So, it only made sense for it to be the site of the kick off of my music season!

I always enjoy my Holiday Hiatus between Thanksgiving and the Super Bowl, but it's wonderful to be performing again. The strum of my happy Telecaster, the hum of the reverb in the mic, the sound of pints sliding down the bar, and the cheer of the crowd...it's all so energizing!

But the best feeling is getting home in the wee hours of the morning, exhausted from all the energy it takes to hit those high notes and bang my guitar, exhausted from smiling and laughing with all my new friends, and knowing I get to sleep late...and do it all over again tomorrow :-)

Cheers! -LJ-
